Lake Bled Wedding Venues: How We Chose Ours

At the start of 2026, we wished we could find more firsthand stories from couples who had actually gotten married in Lake Bled.

We started by Googling, chatting with Gemini and ChatGPT, and watching hours of Lake Bled wedding videos on YouTube. There was plenty of beautiful inspiration, but we wanted to know what these venues were actually like from a couple trying to choose between them.

Now that we've gone through it ourselves, here's what we thought about the three venues we seriously considered: Vila Bled, Grand Hotel Toplice and Bled Castle.

Vila Bled

It was actually the private park behind Vila Bled that brought us to Lake Bled in the first place.

We originally planned for around 20 people, which eventually grew to 34 guests plus the two of us. The private park overlooking Bled Island was still perfect for the intimate ceremony we wanted.

For cocktails afterward, we loved the long terrace along Vila Bled's arches. It gave us another private view of Bled Island and a completely different setting for photos without leaving the property.

We also considered staying for dinner. We wanted to dine outside, and we'd seen weddings transform the inner courtyard with round tables surrounded by the villa's arches.

For the after-party, Vila Bled has Belvedere, a separate event space higher up on the property. Since it's detached from the hotel, we liked that the party could continue away from the guest rooms. There's also a terrace with an incredible daytime view — although by the after-party, you're probably not paying much attention to it anyway.

The hotel itself wasn't really our style. We appreciated the history and vintage character, but for an August wedding, we wanted something more modern and comfortable.

Ultimately, there was one part of Vila Bled we couldn't let go of:

That park behind the villa.

It became the place where we got married.

Grand Hotel Toplice

Grand Hotel Toplice was an interesting find by Duygu. She noticed it was a member of Small Luxury Hotels and became curious about what it could offer for a wedding.

The Julijana Terrace immediately stood out. It overlooked Lake Bled and Bled Castle and was intimate enough for the small wedding we originally imagined.

At first, we considered it for our ceremony.

Little did we know we'd eventually use it for our wedding dinner instead.

Toplice also gave us several indoor options. For the after-party, Panorama Hall was just upstairs from Julijana and could be divided into smaller sections — perfect because we didn't want 36 people dancing in a huge, empty-feeling ballroom.

Like Vila Bled, the hotel rooms weren't really our style. We preferred something more modern for ourselves and our guests.

The event spaces, though, were another story.

Julijana Terrace and Panorama Hall eventually became two major parts of our wedding.

Bled Castle

And then there was the castle on the hill.

During our February trip, we hiked up to see the views, explore the spaces, try the food and understand what having a wedding there would actually feel like.

We're glad we did. While exploring the castle, we found a wedding-film showcase inside the printing works — which is actually how we discovered Matic Grmek and Skylight Weddings, our eventual wedding cinematographer.

Sometimes wedding planning works in strange ways.

The ceremony could take place in the main courtyard, with a dedicated area set aside for the wedding. Unlike Vila Bled's private park, though, the castle remains open to visitors.

So yes, you might have tourists wandering nearby — and maybe even cheering you on.

Our "Play It Safe" Option

We seriously considered Bled Castle because it was our play-it-safe option for the weather.

If the weather was good, dinner could be outside. If it rained, there was an indoor dining hall with floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking Lake Bled.

That solved one of our biggest concerns.

But visiting made us realize something we hadn't really considered from the photos.

By dinner time, once it gets dark, there isn't much of the famous view left to see.

From down by the lake, you can look up at Bled Castle illuminated on the hill — exactly the view we'd eventually have from Julijana Terrace.

For us, we realized we'd rather have the lake and castle remain part of the atmosphere during dinner.

The other consideration was transportation. Since Bled Castle isn't a hotel, we'd still need to arrange transportation back down to Bled for our guests afterward.
