Do You Need a Wedding Planner in Lake Bled? Our Experience

When we started planning our Lake Bled wedding, we really didn't know where to begin.

We knew we liked Vila Bled, so I drafted an email and reached out. We were also curious about Grand Hotel Toplice, so I sent another email to the Sava Group.

Then I clicked “Send” and waited.

Thankfully, not for long.

Within a couple of days, both venues got back to us with their wedding presentations and packages.

So there Duygu and I were, sitting in Stuttgart with two different Lake Bled wedding presentations in front of us.

And we had a very simple thought:

“Uhh…now what?”

That's when we realized we needed a wedding planner.

Finding the Right Planner for Us

We weren't looking for just anyone.

We wanted someone we clicked with, who knew Bled inside and out, and already had a strong network of local connections.

The venues we'd contacted recommended several planners, and we found others through Google. We shortlisted the ones that stood out, sent another round of emails, and arranged video calls.

Then we met Petra Čuk from Da Petra Weddings.

And a quick note if you're researching Lake Bled wedding planners yourself: you'll probably notice there are quite a few Petras in the wedding industry around Bled. So whenever we say Petra in this series, we're talking about Petra Čuk. 😅

After our call, Duygu and I both knew she was the right fit.

Petra Čuk was personable. She listened to what we wanted, guided us when we needed it, and was upfront about what was realistic for our initial budget without putting pressure on us.

Talking to her never felt transactional.

It felt more like we'd found a local friend who knew how to help us pull off this wedding in Lake Bled.

A Project Manager Looking for Another Project Manager

As a project manager myself, my expectations were admittedly pretty high.

Basically, I was looking for another me.

Someone responsive, organized and direct while still being polite. Someone with a get-stuff-done attitude.

Petra's working style and mine just clicked.

And we'd find out pretty quickly whether that first impression was right.

Our First Planning Day in Lake Bled

After our first video call with Petra in early February, we planned a road trip from Stuttgart to Lake Bled later that month.

We still hadn't officially decided on Lake Bled.

We wanted to see everything ourselves, make sure we weren't being fooled by beautiful high-definition photos on our screens, and meet Petra in person.

And what a first planning day it was.

Petra met us at Hotel Starkl after breakfast.

From there, we toured Grand Hotel Toplice, Rikli Balance Hotel and Vila Bled — including finally getting to stand in the park behind the villa that had brought us to Lake Bled in the first place.

A view of Hotel Starkl and the Pletna boats during our walk. This is where we first stayed at in Lake Bled during our wedding scouting trip.

Then we went to the registrar to work through our wedding application and met Tomaž, our florist, to start discussing Duygu's colour scheme and flowers.

We met Petra at around 10 AM.

By roughly 3 PM, we'd toured three properties (Vila Bled, Grand Hotel Toplice, Rikli Balance), signed & submitted our wedding application, selected our flowers, and even had an afternoon coffee.

Now that's efficient!

And it was only our first day.

What Having Someone Local Made Possible

Over the next six months, Petra consistently gave us options.

We never felt cornered into a decision, and nothing felt transactional.

Because we only had six months, we needed to lock in some vendors quickly. We were already competing for Summer 2026 dates with couples who had been planning for 18–24 months.

We secured Ana Gregorič for photography and Matic Grmek from Skylight Weddings for video early.

Once we figured out our wedding flow and were ready to choose a DJ, Petra gave us several options that could accommodate what we wanted. That's how we eventually landed on DJ Lexy Dee.

Plans changed along the way too.

We loved working with Tomaž and his florist team, but our floral plans kept evolving — from changing the ceremony arch to four floral stands, to later adding custom ribbons and mini bouquets behind every chair. Petra arranged another meeting with Tomaž and helped turn those changes into reality.

Our decorated wedding setup at Vila Bled’s private park for our ceremony

But the biggest example was the wedding itself.

We were planning a ceremony at Vila Bled, followed by cocktails there, decorated Pletna boats across the lake, dinner at Julijana Terrace at Grand Hotel Toplice, and finally an after-party upstairs in Panorama Hall.

There is no way we would've wanted to coordinate all of that ourselves from Stuttgart.

Petra had the contacts, coordination and — importantly — the patience to bring all of those moving pieces together.

So, Do You Need a Wedding Planner in Lake Bled?

We can only answer this from our own experience, but for the wedding we wanted:

Yes, we absolutely needed a wedding planner in Bled.

Don't underestimate destination wedding planning simply because ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools can make the research easier.

We used them too.

But there's a big difference between researching Lake Bled and having someone local who knows the venues, vendors, relationships and the process of actually getting married in Slovenia.

For us, that was Petra Čuk of Da Petra Weddings.

Looking back, choosing our wedding planner wasn't simply another vendor decision.

It was the most important decision that made our fairytale Lake Bled wedding possible.

P.S. If you do decide to reach out to Petra Čuk after reading this, feel free to tell her Duygu & Pat said “Hi!”. We'd be happy to know that sharing our experience helped another couple start planning their own Lake Bled wedding.
