Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

A simple and fresh approach to cooking edamame, using steaming instead of microwaving for a better texture and enhanced flavor.

Frozen edamame waiting to be steamed to perfection

πŸ›’ Ingredients & Materials

  • Ita-san unsalted edamame (1000 g)

  • IKEA pot (for boiling water)

  • Amazon steamer (to keep edamame above boiling water)

  • Water (enough to create steam below the steamer tray)

✨ Our Twist

  • Steam Instead of Microwave: Using an induction stovetop for a fresher texture and even cooking. And also because we don’t have a microwave!

πŸ“‹ Steps

  1. Boil Water: Add enough water to fill the gap under the steamer in the pot, cover with lid, and heat until steaming.

  2. Cook Edamame: Place the desired amount of frozen edamame in the steamer tray.

  3. Steam Until Soft: Wait 7 to 10 minutes at medium-high heat (7 or 8 out of 10) checking for the desired tenderness.

🍽️ Serving Recommendation

  • Sprinkle with Kosher salt for a classic touch & because it sticks nicely.

  • Toss with chili flakes and sesame oil for extra flavour.

  • Serve alongside soy sauce or ponzu for dipping.

πŸ“ Notes for Next Time

  • Want a richer taste? Try steaming with garlic-infused water.

  • For extra crispness: Flash-cool edamame in cold water after steaming.

  • Try flavored toppings: Mix with furikake or toasted sesame seeds.
